From the screenplay by Criss Fletcher, based on a treatment by the director Deniz Erel, STOWAWAY is an uplifting tragicomedy.
We are MA Film Production students from the Arts University Bournemouth Filmschool (AUB) and STOWAWAY was our graduation film that is filmed in September 2015. Preparations have started early June 2015 and the principal photography has taken place in five different locations in Dorset between 25th and 30th September 2015.
Our camera was ARRI Alexa digital cinema camera. Including Art, Costume and Make Up departments there were over 30 students involved in STOWAWAY.
Our 15 minute story unfolds in the Dorset countryside when YUSUF one of several desperate migrant stowaways, leaps from a lorry and runs off into the surrounding woods. YUSUF striking out on his own comes upon FRANK and his deaf friend GARRAT, two homeless guys who have a makeshift camp at the edge of the woods by a broad, outlying meadow. YUSUF finds them as they are burying DIMMY, their late buddy, who appears to have died in the night from alcoholic poisoning. Now three again, these homeless men reach an understanding. Then DUNHAM, a policewoman enters the wood.
Stowaway is looking at the plight of homelessness and refugee crisis, addressing it through an uplifting tragicomedy that promotes a humanistic view.
So we’ve decided to collaborate with two charities, promote their logos On the deadline day of our fundraising campaign 13th September 2015 Deniz, director of this movie has completed a half marathon at the NEW FOREST MARATHON under two charities: Crisis-UK and UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to increase the donations made to those charities. Also we have transferred a small portion of the donations towards our campaign to these charities: £1 to UNHCR and £1 to Crisis UK, for each STOWAWAY donation that was bigger than £14.99. |
